With new head coach Dan Campbell at the helm, the Detroit Lions had their season debut Sunday (Sept. 12) at Ford Field. While the team rallied late in the game, it wasn’t enough to pull off a win.

The San Francisco 49ers were strong for most of the game but slipped later, as Detroit flexed their muscle. The 49ers led 38-10 early in the fourth quarter, but the final score was 41-33, with San Francisco narrowly holding onto a win.

In his first game as quarterback, the Lions’ Jared Goff ended the game with a pass to nobody.

While this wasn’t an ideal home opener for the Lions, fans can take hope in the rally. If the team had played that strong throughout the game, there could have been a very different outcome.

The Lions’ next game is at Green Bay on Sept. 20.
