Roar Reaction: Red Wings Fall to Stars in Dallas
What Happened
The Detroit Red Wings were clearly a little jet-lagged from their consecutive road games, as they fell to the Dallas Stars, 5-2, on Tuesday night. Jason Robertson scored twice, while Jake Oettinger made 28 saves in his season debut for the home team. Ryan Suter, Jamie Benn, and Roope Hintz also scored for the Stars, who never trailed in this one. The Wings got goals from Dylan Larkin and Filip Zadina, but then they lost the captain in the middle of the game due to COVID protocols. Alex Nedeljkovic saw his personal three-game winning streak come to an end as the Wings have now dropped three of their past four games overall.
What We Saw
The tired play from the team forced them to play defense more times than not on this night, as the ice was tilted in the Stars’ favor from the opening faceoff. The Stars out-shot the Wings, 11-3, in the first period, and that constant pressure was bound to get to Nedeljkovic, no matter how good he’s been looking as of late. Detroit did bounce back with a solid second period, where both goals came from, but a majority of the Red Wing pressure just fell short while playing from behind. Losing Larkin mid-game did no good for the team as well, as they struggled to create quality looks despite the pressure staying on in the Dallas zone for the final 20 minutes.
What’s Next
The road trips continues out in Vegas on Thursday night against the Golden Knights, who have gotten back on track a bit in a tough Pacific Division.
