Can you imagine getting an out-of-the-blue phone call one day and being asked to perform at the Super Bowl halftime show? That’s pretty much the biggest stage in the world. Needless to say, that phone call would be met with plenty of excitement. I’m a singer myself (my single new “Scars” is here), and I’m pretty sure I would freak out, in a good way, if that opportunity came my way.

That’s just what happened to a local Michigan rapper. He actually got a phone call asking him to appear at this year’s Big Game.

Sean Forbes, a 40-year old deaf rapper from Detroit, has been selected to perform alongside Eminem, Dr. Dre, Mary J. Blige, Snoop Dogg and Kendrick Lamar at the Super Bowl Halftime Show at Los Angeles’ SoFi Stadium.

This will mark the first time the Super Bowl halftime show will have ASL interpreters. Forbes and another deaf rapper, Warren (WaWa) Snipe, 50, will perform sign-language interpretations of the performances.

Forbes has a connection with Eminem, so it makes sense for him to be at the show. He was often at Ferndale’s 54 Sound studio, where Eminem got his start. “So this is very much a full-circle moment, being from Detroit, being part of the Eminem camp — or even going back to being 12 and listening to N.W.A., Dre and Snoop on my Walkman,” Forbes told the Detroit Free Press. “My goal is to get out there, show what we can do, and have fun,” Forbes said. “And I want to open the door for other deaf performers.” We can’t wait to watch you, Sean.
