Detroit Red Wings Split with Head Coach Jeff Blashill

Detroit Red Wings head coach Jeff Blashill is out.

General manager Steve Yzerman made the announcement Saturday (April 30), adding that they will also not renew contracts for assistant coach Doug Houda and goaltending coach Jeff Salajko.

Blashill, a Michigan native, just wrapped up his seventh season as head coach of the Red Wings. He was with the Wings for 11 seasons.

The Wings closed out their season Friday (April 29) with a win, 5-3, against the New Jersey Red Devils.
