It's been more than a year since Matthew Stafford left the Detroit Lions for the L.A. Rams, but people are still talking about it. Now, in a new feature via ESPN’s Seth Wickersham, Rams coach Sean McVay opened up about the time he spent with Stafford in Cabo San Lucas right before the big trade.

McVay was on vacation with his wife Veronika and upset about the Rams’ loss to the Green Bay Packers in the Divisional Round. Then, he heard that Stafford was vacationing at the same resort and wanted to leave Detroit. So, McVay and Stafford met for drinks and talked shop, as they say. Wickersham called it, "bond forged over sun and booze." After the festivities, McVay made a FaceTime call to the front office, along with a drunk-ish pitch.

“Here’s the f—ing deal, OK? We can sit here and exist, and be OK winning nine to 11 games, and losing in the f—ing divisional round and feel like, ‘Oh, everything’s OK,'” McVay says he told his bosses. “Or, we could let our motherf—ing nuts hang, and go trade for this f—ing quarterback, and give ourselves a chance to go win a f—ing world championship. You ready to f—ing do this or what?” Geez. Can't we keep it clean, guys? The pitch, of course, worked, so I stand corrected.
