Brooklyn Nets Part Ways With Head Coach Steve Nash
Controversy and falling short of expectations have surrounded the Brooklyn Nets for some time, and now, after a dismal beginning to their season, the Brooklyn Nets and head coach Steve Nash have mutually agreed to part ways.
The decision came Tuesday.
Brooklyn’s front office released a quote stating,
“We want to thank Steve for everything he brought to our franchise over the past two-plus seasons,” general manager Sean Marks said in a statement Tuesday. “Since becoming head coach, Steve was faced with a number of unprecedented challenges, and we are sincerely grateful for his leadership, patience and humility throughout his tenure. Personally, this was an immensely difficult decision; however, after much deliberation and evaluation of how the season has begun, we agreed that a change is necessary at this time.”
Assistant coach Jacque Vaughn will serve as interim head coach for now.
Brooklyn is expected to reach out to former Utah Jazz head coach, Quinn Snyder and former Boston Celtics head coach Ime Udoka in regards to the head coaching position, per sources.
Update:
The Brooklyn Nets, as of Wednesday are working to finalize a deal that would bring former Boston Celtics head coach, Ime Udoka into their organization as the Net’s head coach.
Udoka’s controversy laden dismissal from Boston did not come with any restraints on teams speaking to him regarding opening coaching positions.
