What Did Jim Harbaugh Allegedly Do to Get Suspended?
On Tuesday (July 25), news broke that Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh and the NCAA were reportedly working on resolution that would possibly have him suspended four games this season. The penalties came from alleged false statements he first made to investigators, Yahoo Sports reported. But, what did Jim Harbaugh allegedly do? I know of a lot of people talking about this incident, and nobody seems to really understand what went down.
What Did Jim Harbaugh Allegedly Do?
So, here’s the scoop. According to Ross Dellenger at Yahoo Sports, Harbaugh is being suspended for alleged false statements made to the NCAA. Those statements were made in response to an investigation of recruiting violations he and Michigan staff members reportedly made.
As for what those recruiting violations that Harbaugh and staff members made were, it’s a bit murky. According to the NCAA, there were four Level II violations. That included meeting with recruits during a COVID-19 dead period, texting a recruit outside of the permitted time period and having coaches watch players work out on online platforms such as Zoom. Also, Harbaugh apparently met Michigan recruits at The Brown Jug. He also bought them burgers there.
That might not seem like a big deal, but the bigger deal is his alleged Level I violation, in which he lied to the investigators about the activities he allegedly did. So, that’s why he, reportedly, will be suspended. Harbaugh and the NCAA reportedly negotiated an agreed upon suspension, which is the four games. It’s kind of like admitting you’re guilty and settling outside of court, to get a lower sentence. It’s not like the games he would miss are big games, so that’s good news for Michigan fans. We’ll keep you posted on how this plays out.
