Dealing with the housing market these days is like solving a super-tough puzzle. Prices are sky-high, and there's hardly anything available. But all hope isn't lost. Just imagine a two-bedroom house for only a dollar. It might sound unbelievable, but there's actually one up for grabs in Pontiac.
There’s a 724-square-foot home located at 70 E. Ypsilanti is making waves on social media. It caught everyone's attention after being featured on Zillow Gone Wild, a platform about showcasing unique properties from across the country.
The world’s cheapest home in Pontiac
The house in Pontiac is being promoted as "the world’s cheapest home." The Pontiac house, listed on August 15, has been without occupants for several years and needs major maintenance. Photographs show paint peeling from walls, certain rooms with missing drywall, a floor hole exposing the crawl space, and overgrown weeds and bushes.
In the description of the house, they're having a bit of fun with its description saying, "The roof might have seen better days, but hey, it's not leaking yet — it's just keeping you on your toes, providing an unexpected shower of excitement when you least expect it."
Back in 2004, the house changed hands for $32,400, and it's been on a downward slope since then. Fast forward to 2022, and it was sold for a mere $4,092. Now, it's making a reappearance on the market with a price tag of just one dollar. But don’t start planning your move just yet. Christopher Hubel from Good Company Realty in Royal Oak told the Detroit Free Press that it's just a tactic. Hubel anticipates the house will be sold for approximately "between $45,000 to $50,000," aligning with his estimation of its market value.
Whether people are amped up about the house or simply intrigued by the description, there's no doubt it's been getting a lot of attention. "Absolutely thrilled to share that I generated a whopping 485 leads from just one listing today," the real estate agent shared on Facebook. "Talk about the power of effective marketing," he wrote.
Cash offers for the property are due by 10 a.m. Wednesday, says the real estate website.
