Chick-fil-A is making its way to downtown Detroit. The restaurant is set to open in the First National Building at 660 Woodward Ave. A Bedrock Detroit spokesperson confirmed the opening with a local news outlet saying it's slated to open in May or June.

The restaurant joins a Shake Shack, Central Kitchen + Bar, and Roasting Plant coffee shop, all located in the same building, owned by Bedrock.

What To Expect

The new location is expected to seat around 60 to 70 people in the approximately 3,500-square-foot space.

There’s a Chick-fil-A in the Detroit Medical Center at 3990 John R St., Detroit. There are over 20 Chick-fil-A locations in Michigan, including the Livonia, Northville, and Shelby Township locations.

New Chick-fil-A locations were also proposed in Canton Township in the area of I-275 and Ford Road and on the Detroit-Grosse Pointe border near Mack Avenue and Marseille Street. In both areas, people expressed concerns about traffic.

The popular restaurant chain, for the ninth year in a row, remained in the top spot on the American Customers Satisfaction Index’s (ACSI) 2023 report released last June. Chick-fil-A restaurants are closed on Sundays.

Also coming this spring is a Chipotle Mexican Grill. It’s scheduled to open its first downtown Detroit location this spring.

Some background.

The family-owned Chick-fil-A was founded in 1967 by S. Truett Cathy and is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia. There are about 3,000 Chick-fil-A locations across the U.S. and in Canada and Puerto Rico, according to the chain's website.

According to the Bedrock Detroit website, the First National Building was designed by architect Albert Kahn and constructed in 1922 for the First National Bank. Now, the oldest of the structures surrounding Campus Martius Park, the “Z”-shaped landmark stands 26 stories tall. The “Neoclassical-style, limestone skyscraper” was purchased by Bedrock in 2011 and renovated by architecture firm Neumann Smith the next year.
