Pistons Fall to Nuggets, Snapping Detroit’s Eight-Game Winning Streak
The Detroit Pistons had been on a roll during February, clinching eight consecutive wins over the last three weeks. This winning streak ended on Friday, Feb. 28, when the Denver Nuggets handed Detroit its first loss in a 134-119 victory at the Little Caesar Arena.
Cade Cunningham struggled against the Nuggets’ outsized defense. He finished the game with 11 points and four assists.
Denver’s boost came from its dynamic duo, Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray. Jokic finished with 23 points, 17 rebounds, and 15 assists. Murray notched a game-winning 31 points and beat back Detroit with a blend of elbow jumpers and three-pointers above the break.
Before Friday’s matchup against the Nuggets, the Pistons had overtaken the 76ers, Hornets, Bulls, Spurs, Hawks, Clippers, and the reigning NBA Champion Celtics. On Wednesday, Feb. 26, the Pistons beat the Celtics 117-97. It was the Pistons’ first team win against Boston since the 2021-2022 season.
