The Detroit Red Wings visit the NHL's hottest team at 7 p.m. tonight. The St. Louis Blues have won nine games in a row, soaring to the top of 2024-25's Wild Card race in the Western Conference. Meanwhile, the Red Wings seem to be playing their way out of a potential Eastern Conference playoff seed, with losses on home ice putting the club behind the Columbus Blue Jackets and nearly double-digit points behind the Ottawa Senators.

You need not worry about Detroit's motivation to win tonight, though. Detroit and St. Louis are old Norris Division rivals now on different sides of the NHL. The Red Wings would like nothing more than to snap the Blues' win streak, having had no cracks at the Blues since losing 4-0 in December.

The weekend's 2-1 win over Boston could be an additional spark for the Red Wings. With one upset win over a hated foe, Detroit would come alive in the race again, dashing STL's hopes of 10 in a row.

Detroit Red Wings vs St. Louis Blues Picks & Predictions

Detroit is treating the regular season like the playoffs by not disclosing all injuries. Regardless, the Red Wings are technically a healthier team than the Blues as of April 1. Colton Parayko's absence from the St. Louis defense corps will catch up with his teammates at some point, leaving the door open for an upset.

Detroit's center Dylan Larkin is taking criticism for a Team USA hangover. Larkin has scored only once in the Red Wings' last nine games and has not made much impact since HC Todd McLellan's harsh "he was missing" review of Larkin's play to Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press, spoken at the beginning of March. In contrast, Lucas Raymond's scoring punch has come back in Detroit's most recent games.

Look for a fun, common sense "over" bet to beat Vegas science. The sportsbook's under-total-goals market for Blues-Wings could have thinner odds by Tuesday's pregame due to Blues GK Jordan Binnington's hot streak and the Red Wings' reputation for spotty offense. But that O/U line can be outscored easily by a likely rock 'em, sock 'em rivalry game played at postseason pace.
