Talk about being fickle. Just one year after the Los Angels Rams won a Super Bowl with Matthew Stafford as their quarterback, there are rumors that the Rams are already trying to trade him- and trying hard.

The Rams are also reportedly wanting to trade Jalen Ramsey and Allen Robinson. Of course, there are many rumors about Ramsey coming to Detroit, so time will tell.

I can’t say I’m surprised that the Rams are, possibly, looking to trade Stafford. Things move quickly in the NFL. And, look at how they got rid of Jared Goff. He was pretty much the last guy to know about it. It doesn’t seem like they deal with these things with a ton of class. But, Goff is doing incredibly well in Detroit, so as they say, the last shall be first.

  • The rumor

Here we go. The new rumor comes from former NFL general manager Michael Lombardia on the “Pat McAfee Show.” He says the Rams have actually called teams and have tried to trade quarterback Matthew Stafford away.

“Matt Stafford is fully available,” Lombardi said. “Matt Stafford, they would love to trade (him).”

  • Is Matthew Stafford ready to retire?

Matthew Stafford is 35 years old and has been dealing with multiple injuries. But, Stafford has said that he definitely wants to play in 2023. He doesn’t want to retire.

  • The money

The Rams are paying Stafford a lot. His contract goes up to $49.5 million in 2024 and $36 million in 2025. That’s the kind of money you spend on an elite quarterback, and Stafford is not considered one.

  • Will it happen?

According to Lombardi, the only reason a trade might not happen is because of Stafford’s contract. He says, “He’s got $26 million of an option bonus on the third day of the league year, and he’s got $31 million in (2024) paragraph five (salary) on the third day of the league year. All of that is guaranteed. That’s $57 million.”
