The Ottawa Senators will steam into the Motor City to face the Detroit Red Wings in another matchup of Atlantic Division rivals, this one with major playoff implications as both teams look to make their run with the season coming to a close.

The postseason is just around the corner, so each game is increasingly important. The Senators have brought their best in recent weeks, winning seven of their last nine games behind excellent performances from Brady Tkachuk and goalie Linus Ullmark. The hot streak has Ottowa positioned to make the playoffs for the first time in eight seasons.

In Detroit, the situation is much more dire. The Red Wings own a winning record but are on the outside looking into the playoff picture. They will need quite a run to leg out the Montreal Canadiens, New York Rangers, and the New York Islanders down the stretch. Regardless, this should be a good matchup between two teams that have seen a lot of each other.

Senators vs. Red Wings Predictions and Picks

It is hard to ignore the difference in how these teams have performed recently. The Senators have been fantastic offensively lately, scoring three or more goals in the vast majority of their recent outings. This offensive outburst helped bolster the aforementioned winning streak, including notable victories over the Toronto Maple Leafs and the New Jersey Devils.

The flip side does not look nearly as good. The Red Wings have been on quite a cold streak, only managing to notch wins against the lowly Buffalo Sabres, excluding a somewhat fluke-like victory against the Las Vegas Golden Nights. The defense has struggled throughout the losing stretch, allowing plenty of offense in matchups against the Golden Knights, the Washington Capitals, and the Carolina Hurricanes.

Considering these recent trends, it is hard to justify looking at the Red Wings as underdogs. The handful of injuries Detroit is dealing with does not make them any more enticing, even though they do have a track record of covering at home against the Senators. Ottawa is playing better hockey, particularly offensively, at the moment, and they are the more reliable team overall. A look at their moneyline is in order, as long as it stays below -200.
