Dan Campbell: Does He See Jared Goff as the Detroit Lions’ Long-Term Quarterback?
Going into the last season for the Detroit Lions, people had questions about Jared Goff and if he was the right fit for the team. But, last season, he proved himself, leading the Lions to victorious season. He had some of the best stats in the NFL the second half of the season. Now, he’s the Lions’ golden egg. Is that a term? Probably not, but you get what I mean. But, does Dan Campbell see Jared Goff as the Detroit Lions’ long-term quarterback?
Campbell answered the question recently. Here’s what he had to say.
Jared Goff: Detroit Lions’ Long-Term Quarterback?
Speaking with ESPN, Campbell said he “would love to” have Goff be the Lions’ long-term quarterback. “There’s nothing that tells me he can’t be,” Campbell said regarding Goff’s place in the team. “When you have a quarterback you believe in, why would you ever move on? I get there are other circumstances, but it’s hard to find quarterbacks in this league. We’ve got a guy we can win with right now. We’re fortunate to have him; that’s how I see it.”
Campbell is totally right. Finding an elite quarterback in the league isn’t easy. It’s downright difficult. I think the Lions should count their blessings and make sure they keep Goff in the fold. Goff is currently scheduled to become a free agent after the 2024 season. So, Campbell has some time before figuring out how to move forward with Goff. I think the Lions should make sure Goff doesn’t walk and give him a large contract to keep him in the fold. Last season, Goff recorded 4,438 passing yards, 29 touchdown passes and seven interceptions. That’s impressive.
