Detroit Lions’ Brad Holmes on Jared Goff: I Never Deemed Him As a Bridge
Jared Goff proved the naysayers wrong this season. While many Detroit Lions fans didn’t think he had what it would take to lead them to a winning season, he came on hard, helping the team end with a winning record and beating the Green Bay Packers not once by twice.
Goff’s stats were also impressive. They landed him in the top five of all NFL quarterbacks for the month of December 2022.
Detroit Lions general manager Brad Holmes always Goff was the right guy for the job. Speaking during his season-ending press conference, Holmes had shining and strong words to say about Goff.
“He stayed the course,” Holmes said. “Knowing what he’s made of, that’s why I just kept faith, I kept confidence. I respect the hell out of him, because I told him, ‘We’ll hold up our end of the bargain.’ We were being held accountable, we’ve got to put you in the right situation, with the right pieces around you, stability on offense. And, I felt like we did that, and he held up his end of the bargain.” He added, “I just think it worked out. I didn’t have any doubt or waver, I never really deemed him as a bridge. I think everybody else did, but I think it’s a little bit of the recency bias from what he had to deal with last year.”
