Christian Wood Coming Back To Detroit?
Pistons head coach Monty Williams and GM Troy Weaver hung out together at the NBA Summer League ’23 event in Las Vegas this past weekend, and although that in itself is nothing particularly newsworthy for Detroit Pistons fans, it was the company they kept that had many eyebrows raising.
Former Mavericks big man and current free agent, Christian Wood was spotted hanging with Weaver and Williams at the NBA Summer League.
Wood, a former Piston signed by the team in 2019 after a solid season in New Orleans and later dealt to Houston for veteran forward Trevor Ariza, is currently exploring his options on the free agency market after having finished his contract with the Dallas Mavericks last season.
Could Christian Wood returning to Detroit – if indeed that is in the cards – help the Pistons at all?
Actually, yes.
Wood provides a big man presence who can create spacing in effective ways, as well as his Dallas averages of 16.6 points, 7.3 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.1 blocks per game.
Christian Wood is also a solid three point shot.
If indeed there’s more to this trio hanging out in Vegas than just taking in the show, there’s a potential upgrade for an already promising Pistons core on the horizon.
