Thursday (March 9), the NFL world hit the fan with some big rumors that the LA Rams are trying to trade quarterback Matthew Stafford.

It was surprising to many, since Stafford just won them a Super Bowl a year ago. But, of course, the Rams aren’t known for their loyalty, so it’s not as surprising as one might think.

Now, Detroit Lions fans are talking about the possibility of Stafford coming back to the D. Do you think it would be a good idea? Feelings are certainly mixed, but trends that I’m seeing on social media are mainly that fans don’t want to see Stafford back, or at least not back in the quarterback position. Read on for some WRIF and Roar personalities’ thoughts on Stafford back in Detroit!

Personally, I love Matthew Stafford, but I don’t think bringing him back to Detroit would be beneficial to either the team or him. There’s a something spectacular brewing with this team right now, and I think the mental aspect of what this would do isn’t worth it. Not to mention, Stafford spent almost the entire last season injured and played injured for quite some time with us. I wish him the best and hope he is forever successful, but the sun has set on Stafford in the Motor City.

I think the Stafford ship has sailed. Last year was disastrous for him, not sure he’ll be able to bounce back. I think, outside of the first half of the season, that Jared Goff got the job done. Just my two cents.

Now is not the time to bring Stafford back. Nothing against the talent he has, but that would slow down the momentum the Lions currently have. Jared Goff is once again on the rise, so a quarterback change in general is not the direction the Lions need to go right now.

I have respect for Matthew Stafford, but he was with Detroit for more than a decade, and we never had much of a winning run. I think it would be a huge mistake for Stafford to come back to Detroit. We had one of our best seasons as of late in 2022 and are riding high on that success. Jared Goff has proved that he’s a fantastic fit with the team. I would be surprised to see Stafford come back.
